MONTE VISTA — Officials with Rio Grande National Forest have extended the comment period on the land swap for the Village at Wolf Creek to Oct. 11.

The agency is seeking comment on a draft environmental impact statement that looks at the proposal to swap 204 acres of Forest Service land for 178 acres owned by a development group headed up by Texas billionaire Red McCombs.

Should the exchange go through, it would bring McCombs a step closer to building a resort near the existing Wolf Creek Ski Area.

The proposed swap would move that development away from skiable terrain and wetlands and closer to U.S. 160.

Comments may be emailed to comments-rocky-mountain-rio-grande@fs.fed.us and should include Village at Wolf Creek Access Project DEIS in the subject line.

Hard copy comments should be sent to Village at Wolf Creek Access Project, c/o Tom Malecek, Divide District Ranger, Rio Grande National Forest, 13308 U.S. 160 West, Del Norte, CO 81132.
